Repair B3-B4/Passat B3-B4 Volkswagen Passat>> Power supply system>> Power supply systems of petrol engines>> Fuel pump
Fuel pump of carburetor engines
On the cars equipped with carburetor engines, the fuel pump is located on the left side of the block of cylinders, near an arm of the oil filter and is put in action by intermediate shaft.
Check of serviceability of the fuel pump carry out in the following order:
– weaken a collar 5 (see
fig. 5.14
);
– disconnect from the pump 4 a hose 16;
– several times press the lever of a drive of the pump. If from the pump by pressing the lever fuel pours out, means, the pump is serviceable;
– otherwise the pump is subject to repair.
Fuel pump of vpryskovy engines
On the cars equipped with engines with system of injection, the fuel pump can be established in a fuel tank or outside before a tank behind the fuel filter on the right side
(fig. 5.12 and 5.13)
.
On cars with SOHC engines the fuel pump is established in a fuel tank.
On cars with DOHC engines one fuel pump is established in a fuel tank, and the second pump is established behind the fuel filter. Access to the pump can be received after a raising of a back part of the car and removal of the bottom protection.
Check of serviceability of the fuel pump carry out in the following order:
– check serviceability of a safety lock in a chain of the fuel pump;
– disconnect a high-voltage wire from the ignition distributor (an average wire) and connect it to weight, if necessary using an additional piece of a wire;
– include a starter, thus the pump should rustle monotonously;
– if noise at operation of the pump is absent, remove the relay of the fuel pump and connect contact of the relay to the positive plug of the storage battery. If the pump starts to work, the relay is faulty and it is necessary to replace it. If the pump does not work, check electric wires to the pump;
– if the pump works, but fuels less norm, possibly moves, the fuel filter got littered. If the pump is faulty, it is necessary to replace it.
Removal and installation of the fuel pump established in a tank, carry out in the following order:
– disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery;
– disconnect fuel hoses from submitting 6 (see
fig. 5.12
) and returnable 8 unions;
– disconnect electric wires from a cover 9;
– turn on and remove a big flange nut of the 7th fastening of a cover;
– uncover 9 and a sealing ring 10;
– take the fuel pump 15 and a casing 16 of a tank. The pump and a casing act in film with the sensor of the index of level of fuel 2;
Installation carry out to sequences, return to removal.
Replace pump consolidations. At screwing up of a big flange nut when fastening pump in a tank check, that the cover 9 occupied a certain situation when strelochka on unions (the stream direction) coincide with the corresponding hoses.
Removal and installation of the fuel pump established outside, carry out in the following order:
– disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery;
– enclose rags under a pressure head hose in a motor compartment;
– slowly weaken connection and remove pressure in fuel system;
– repeatedly tighten connection;
– for access improvement, unscrew four nuts 17 (see
fig. 5.13
.) also lower an arm of the 20th pump;
– disconnect the electric socket from the fuel pump;
– weaken a ring 10 and slowly remove the pump;
– remove consolidation 8 and the fuel mesh filter 7. Consolidation is subject to replacement. The mesh filter is necessary for washing out in pure gasoline.
Installation carry out to sequences, return to removal. Replace a sealing ring, before installation having moistened it in gasoline.
